Overton Twins Sign for Melbourne Stars — BBL First

Melbourne Stars have pulled off one of the most fun signings of the BBL|16 build-up. England’s Craig and Jamie Overton — twins — have both signed one-year deals.

No pair of twins has ever played in the Big Bash League before. The Stars get that record, and a double helping of pace and power-hitting.

Two different paths, one team

Jamie needs no introduction to BBL fans. He spent three seasons with Adelaide Strikers, finishing BBL|13 as the joint-highest wicket-taker with 16 wickets. Last season he took 12 wickets in 10 games and was named Adelaide’s MVP the year before.

Craig is the BBL rookie. He played 8 Tests and 7 ODIs for England, and his Test debut came at Adelaide Oval back in 2017 — so Australian grounds aren’t new to him. His 2026 English summer was huge: he helped Trent Rockets reach The Hundred final and was named the PCA’s Most Valuable Player of the domestic season.

Fun fact — Craig is the older twin. By three minutes.

Why the Stars did it

The Stars needed pace after losing Tom Curran to Brisbane Heat. Jamie replaces the Curran void directly, and Craig adds another genuine quick. Stars boss James Rosengarten says both bowlers are properly quick and both can hit — expect fireworks at the end of innings, especially with Peter Siddle in the same attack.

Director of coaching Peter Moores was key to the double deal. He worked with Craig during the 2026 English summer and knew exactly what both brothers bring.

Brothers club

The Overtons join a long list of BBL siblings — Shaun and Mitch Marsh, Michael and David Hussey, Ollie and Joel Davies. But no twins. Until now.

When will the Overton twins play for the Stars?

BBL|16, which starts December 12. Jamie is expected to be available for at least six games, with England’s January ODI series possibly cutting his stint short.

Have twins ever played in the BBL before?

No. The Overtons will be the first set of twins in Big Bash League history.

Who did Melbourne Stars lose this off-season?

Tom Curran moved to Brisbane Heat. The Stars also added Finn Allen and Todd Murphy to their squad.
