Brisbane Heat have a stop-gap plan for their first three games of BBL|16. New Zealand batter Bevon Jacobs comes in as Tom Curran‘s international replacement.
Curran will miss the start of the season due to family commitments. He’s expected back before the Boxing Day fixture on December 26. Until then, the 24-year-old Jacobs fills the spot.
Three games, one big chance
Jacobs will be available for the Heat’s opener against the Sydney Sixers at the Gabba on December 15, plus the away games on December 17 and December 21. That’s it — three games to make a mark.
He’s done that before. Jacobs once hit five half-centuries in a row in New Zealand’s Super Smash, equalling Devon Conway’s record. He also smashed a 40-ball hundred in the 2024 T20 Max — the tournament Queensland’s scouts have watched him in for years. Mumbai Indians picked him up in the 2025 IPL auction for Rs 30 lakh.
The cost of the call-up
Jacobs will miss Auckland’s Plunket Shield opener against Northern Districts in Hamilton, starting November 19. He’ll also skip the NZ T20I series buildup with India. That’s the trade-off for a BBL chance.
He won’t be the only Kiwi in teal either. Jacobs joins fellow New Zealander Tim Robinson, who has also signed for the Heat. Two Kiwi power-hitters, one short window. If Jacobs fires in those three games, don’t be surprised if Brisbane finds him a longer deal.
Why is Tom Curran missing BBL games?
Family commitments. He misses the Heat’s first three matches and returns before the Boxing Day game on December 26.
Has Bevon Jacobs played in the IPL?
Yes. Mumbai Indians bought the Auckland right-hander for Rs 30 lakh at the 2025 auction.
How many games will Bevon Jacobs play for Brisbane Heat?
Three — December 15 (vs Sydney Sixers, home), December 17 and December 21 (both away), as Curran’s international replacement.
