Zak Crawley Signs for Perth Scorchers BBL|16

The Perth Scorchers have found their Finn Allen replacement. England batter Zak Crawley has signed a one-year deal with the champions and will be available for the entire season, finals included.

Allen was the tournament’s top run-scorer last summer and took a BBL-record 38 sixes with him to the Melbourne Stars on a three-year deal. That is a big hole at the top of the order. Crawley won’t hit 38 sixes, but he knows this club and this competition.

A familiar face

This is a return, not a debut. Crawley played six innings for the Scorchers in BBL|13, scoring 155 runs with an unbeaten 65 against Hobart at Optus Stadium. He made his BBL debut with the Hurricanes a year earlier. General manager Kade Harvey says the club has no doubt he will become a favourite with members and fans.

Full-season availability is the key part. Too many overseas deals in the BBL come with missing weeks. Crawley is there for the whole tournament, which lets Perth plan a settled top order around Mitch Marsh, Cooper Connolly and Aaron Hardie.

Recent form

Crawley scored 259 runs in the 2026 T20 Blast at a strike rate of 138.50, and 169 runs at 153.63 in The Hundred. Solid, not spectacular. But the Scorchers don’t need spectacular from him. They need someone reliable who can cash in at the top while the middle order does the heavy lifting. The club confirmed the move in their official announcement, and he joins fellow Englishman Calvin Harrison’s Scorchers signing as the club’s second overseas recruit.
