It is now official. Perth Scorchers have confirmed Aneurin Donald for BBL|16 on a one-year deal with full availability, including the finals. The Daily Mail first reported the move in mid-October, and the club made it official on 23 October — see the official club announcement.
If it goes through, it is a neat fit. Donald is 29, Welsh, and built for one job: hitting sixes. Reports say his T20 strike rate over the last two years is the second-highest in the world, behind only India’s Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.
Why Perth want him
Finn Allen left for the Stars, and his power at the top of the order is hard to replace. Donald is a direct answer to that gap. He would join the Perth Scorchers squad for BBL|16. His six-hitting has made him one of the most talked-about batters in the 2026 Vitality Blast, and he made his England T20I debut against Sri Lanka last month.
Donald is with England’s ODI squad in Pakistan. Reports say he would stay on in Australia after the white-ball series next month and link up with Perth. After years in county cricket, a BBL deal would cap a year that finally put him on the map.
Is Aneurin Donald’s Scorchers deal confirmed?
Yes. Perth Scorchers confirmed the signing on 23 October, with Donald on a one-year deal including full finals availability.
Who would Donald replace at the Scorchers?
He adds six-hitting power after Finn Allen’s move to the Stars, and fills the wicketkeeper-batter gap left by Josh Inglis, who has not re-signed. Zak Crawley has already signed as another top-order option, and Calvin Harrison joins Scorchers as their leg-spin signing.
When does BBL 2027 start?
Saturday 12 December 2026, with the Renegades facing the Scorchers in Chennai.
