Melbourne Renegades Up for Sale as BBL Opens Door to Private Owners

Cricket Australia will sell the Melbourne Renegades to private owners. It is the first BBL team to go up for sale.

CA announced the move on 8 September 2026. Private investment will enter the league from the 2027-28 season, with the Renegades first in line.

CA had a bigger plan before. It wanted to sell 49% of all BBL teams, but the cricket boards of New South Wales and Queensland blocked it in April.

Now each state can decide for its own team. CA hopes the sale will bring in big money and make the league stronger in the T20 market.

The Renegades won the BBL title in 2018-19 and are currently owned by Cricket Victoria.
