The Kohli Moment
Hardie first hit headlines as a teenager: in a tour match for the Cricket Australia XI, he dismissed Virat Kohli with a brilliant caught-and-bowled and finished with 4/50. He’d already taken Joe Root’s wicket a year earlier. Australia’s best knew his name early.
Shield Final Heroics
His breakout summer came in 2021-22: an unbeaten 174 in the Sheffield Shield final to end Western Australia’s drought. That summer he was rewarded with county cricket at Surrey, and Australia came calling in September 2023 — T20I and ODI debuts on the South Africa tour.
BBL Brilliance
BBL|12 was the season that made him: a competition-high 460 runs and a spot in the Team of the Tournament as the Scorchers won their fifth title. He backed it up in BBL|13 (334 runs, 6 wickets, Team of the Tournament again) and was superb in BBL|15 — 339 runs and 12 wickets, with an unbeaten 94 against the Hurricanes on New Year’s Day one of the knocks of the tournament.
Playing Style
A power-hitter down the ground with clean hands, plus sharp medium-fast bowling that hits the deck. Hardie gives the Scorchers balance in every game.
